I love making jewelry, but I have been trying to find a good way to display sets without much luck. The velvet and burlap displays at the craft stores can be expensive, and I prefer a more natural look. On my last visit to Dollar Tree, I saw something that gave me an idea. The decorative wooden paddles they carry were just the right size for the kind of jewelry display I had pictured in my head. I decided to buy a couple and see what I could do with them. Even though they were $3 instead of $1, they were still a good deal for the size.

Supplies

To make a jewelry display board, you will need a wooden paddle like the one I found at Dollar Tree, scissors, paint, and eye screws. If your wooden paddle has a design on it, use sandpaper to remove it before painting.

Instructions

1. Remove any twine or embellishments from your wooden paddle with a pair of scissors.

2. If your wooden paddle has a design on it, use sandpaper to remove it. It’s easier to take it off than to keep adding layers of paint to cover it up.

3. Base coat the board. I decided to make this one white and applied two coats.

4. Using a contrasting color, dry brush lightly on edges and on the surface. I used light tan.

5. I added 2 eye screw near the top to hang my earrings on.

I haven’t added a stand on the back yet, so for now I just have it leaned against the wall.  I thought about hanging it on the wall using the big opening at the top.

I also made a black one with white dry brushed all over it. The total cost for both was under $8!
