What’s Not to Love About Valentine’s Day?

Another holiday is upon us, and with it comes fun craft projects. I really love decorating the holiday tree in my studio, and I think my Valentine’s Day tree is my favorite. Although many of my decorations come from Dollar Tree, this year I made some Valentine gnomes to add to the décor. I also decorated a wreath and painted some wooden hearts, also from Dollar Tree, to display on the walls. Here is how they turned out!

Valentine Gnomes

For instructions on how to make these yarn gnomes, check out my post How to Make a Gnome for your Home. I used some plastic hearts on their hats that I already had in the studio, but you could use heart shaped rhinestones, flower, or anything else you like.

Painted Wooden Hearts

Supplies

For this project, I used a Dollar Tree wooden heart with four sections, four colors of acrylic paints, and a flat paintbrush.

Instructions

1. For each heart, pick out four different colors that go well together.

2. Put some of each color on each board.

3. Using a medium size flat brush, paint the top board and the small connecting boards underneath.

4. Next, clean your brush and paint the next board and the small connecting boards underneath.

5. While you still have paint on your brush, brush lightly over the bottom of the first board and the top connecting boards to blend the first and second color together. You will need to do this while all the paint is still wet. This will give you a nice color fade effect.

6. Repeat these steps with the next two colors.

I decided to make a matching gnome to add to it. I also think it needs words, but I just can’t decide what to write… “Happy Valentine’s Day?”, “Gnome Sweet Gnome?”
